The Euro Lottery is open to the whole of Europe and as such it provides some massive jackpots. Although twice as expensive as the UK lotto to participate in, at £2 a game, the jackpot fund reaches levels that the UK lotto never will.
The biggest UK winner on the Euro lotto was believed to have been a couple from Cirencester who scooped £56m, a 50% share of a pot totalling £113m, with the second part rumoured to have been won by an ex-pat Brit in Mojocar in Spain.
The pair were immediately flung into the spotlight by both their willingness to be pictured by the press and the fact that their win fired them into number 980 in Britain’s rich list. That catapulted them ahead of the Gallagher brothers of Oasis who have £52m each, Mr Madonna, Guy Ritchie who has a £50m fortune and even Sir Michael Caine who is believed to have amassed a £45m fortune for his toils.
